Drummondville, QC -- Autodrome Drummond, Quebec’s longest-running dirt track, boasts a history of over 50 years. Gone is the monster half-mile and the circular one-third mile oval in favour of its current 3/8 configuration. Drummond’s huge grandstand runs the full front stretch and is packed with fans week in and week out. Its 3/8 oval is tricky, with long straights and tight corners, and necessitates power and finesse; it makes a great challenge for both driver and crew. The original half-mile track had the pits in the infield, but now they are off turns three and four. New this season is a 1/5-mile oval that will be used for Tobias Speedsters and Slingshots.
Drummond hosts the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) three times each year for full-point shows. On August 15, 2009 the first annual Quebec Sprint Car Nationals will be held, featuring all of the ESS stars as well as the top 360 sprint car drivers from across Canada and the United States. It is hoped the $6,000-to-win, $30,000-purse will be the beginning of a tradition in Quebec.
Drummond is the Saturday night home for Quebec Modifieds. Under the promotional guidance of modifieds driver, Yan Bussiere, this year Drummond is also bringing in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, for the third consecutive season.
Drivers of local interest are Normand Beaudreault, Alain Bergeron, Daniel Lampron, and Steve Poirier. Go to http://www.autodrome-drummond.com/ for this season's schedule.
